Tap into your own self-healing powers to help prevent and reverse the signs of aging. Essentially that’s what microneedling assists with. Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a virtually painless procedure that stimulates your body’s natural healing process, including the growth of collagen and elastin. It’s your key to new, younger-looking skin.
Acne Scar Removal
Acne is a common condition seen in up to 80 percent of young people and in five percent of older adults. For many of these individuals, acne scarring is a real issue. When you’re dealing with acne scars and you haven’t gotten good results from over the counter creams, you should consider micro-needling for acne scar removal.
Also known as the Dermapen or Rejuvapen, the micro-needle results in a thicker dermis and softens the appearance of scars. To see significant improvements in scar appearance and improved skin, 3 months of treatments are usually necessary.
Reduce Stretch Marks
Like any blemish or imperfection on your skin, stretch marks are annoying and tough to overcome. Whether you’ve lost weight or gained weight rapidly or have gone through pregnancy, stretch marks are commonly found on your stomach, hips, butt, breasts, and thighs. And when you want to rock your swimsuit, shorts or some other cute new outfit, you don’t want those tiger stripes showing.
When micro-needling stretch marks you can dramatically reduce their appearance after only 4 to 6 treatments. These treatments are carried out over the course of several months since you’ll only have one treatment per month.
Reverse Sun Damage
We all know that collagen is an effective way to reduce the look of aging and so collagen induction therapy can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles that come from sun damage. However, collagen does more for the look of our skin than just wrinkle reduction. Micro-needling treatments can also reverse the discoloration of the skin due to sun damage. You can’t go back and put on sunscreen now, but you can book your appointment for micro-needling!
How Does Microneedling Work?
The micro-needling process involves pushing or rolling a device over the area of skin you’d like to improve the appearance of. It uses tiny needles to create micro holes in the skin and this forces your skin into repair mode. Thus, the micro-needling treatment stimulates your skin’s natural ability to heal itself and produces collagen and elastin to help your skin look younger.
And if you’re worried about pain because needles are involved, you don’t have to. There’s a topical anesthetic cream used on the skin, and after the treatment, you may or may not experience a few hours of redness, mild swelling or red patches.
How Often Should I Do Micro-needling?
This depends on what you’re getting micro-needling for. For most people, they will only need to micro-needle every three to six months. However, if you have dramatic scarring then you should probably do one session per month for about four to six months.
Micro-needling is appropriate for all skin types. However, if you have any inflamed acne or rosacea, eczema, hypersensitive skin or sunburn, you might want to avoid micro-needling.
